The Blockchain
Cosmos Gravity Bridge is a decentralized Cosmos blockchain, purpose-built to secure the operation of bridges between Cosmos based chains and other “layer one” ecosystems, starting with Ethereum and EVM-compatible blockchains.
Through IBC, many different Cosmos based projects can connect and use Cosmos Gravity Bridge to access ETH and ERC20 assets, like WETH, DAI, USDC, WBTC, and more, without having to operate the gravity orchestrator on their own chain.
Cosmos Gravity Bridge will be able to bring ETH and ERC20 assets from Ethereum into Cosmos, as well as Cosmos assets to Ethereum ERC20 representations. Assets from Ethereum will be able to flow into the Cosmos ecosystem and interact with the unique applications that exist in the Interchain, such as Akash Network, Sentinel, Regen and Osmosis. Meanwhile, ATOM and any other asset in the Cosmos ecosystem, will be able to trade on Uniswap and other Ethereum AMMs, and interact with Ethereum DeFi just as an ERC20 token would.
Decentralized and Non Custodial
Gravity is entirely non-custodial—you only need to trust in the security of the Cosmos chain and it’s distributed validator set. There are no third-party bridge administrators who could potentially abscond with your funds.
Control of the bridge mirrors the active validator set on Cosmos Gravity Bridge, and validators staking on Cosmos can be slashed for misbehavior involving the Gravity bridge.
Efficiency Unlocks the Power of Defi
Gas costs on Ethereum are variable and can be prohibitively high. Gravity bridge addresses this by consolidating transactions into batches, and distributing the fees among all the transactions in the batch.
Using the aggregate efficiency of Gravity Bridge's shared execution context, provided by the Gravity Bridge validator set, even arbitrary logic calls can be executed on Ethereum in a cost efficient way. This creates a favorable situation for participants on either side of the bridge, as the extra efficiency allows DeFi to do more.
